The GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 graphics cards from NVIDIA appear to be popular among PC users looking for the best graphics for their computer rigs. Newegg is aware of this, as the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 is the best-selling graphics card, with the flagship RTX 4090 GPU ranking third.
This news comes as a surprise, as recent reports indicate that the GeForce RTX 4080 has been underperforming in the market. According to Newegg, the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4080 Gaming OC graphics card ($1,269.99) is the store’s best-selling item.
Due to the lower pricing found in the RTX 30 series GPUs, previous generation graphics cards, such as NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3060 and RTX 3060 Ti models, remain a consumer favourite in the top 5 spots.
Even though NVIDIA’s graphics card is currently $1,599.99 and both AMD models are $479 and $329, respectively, AMD’s Radeon RX 6700 XT and Radeon RX 6600 lag even further behind the highest-priced RTX 4090 GPU. However, Newegg’s competitor Amazon displays a different set of top-selling graphics cards than the PC seller.
According to Amazon, the best-selling graphics card is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060. The RTX 4080 and 4090 cards are faring much worse in terms of sales. For example, NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4090 is ranked 15th, while the RTX 4080 is ranked nearly twice as low, in 28th place.
What could account for such a dramatic increase in sales? When comparing Newegg and Amazon, a few factors come into play. Amazon is a global retailer that sells more than just computer hardware and components.
The online retail giant also sells books, clothing, movies, and other items, whereas Newegg is more specialised in what they sell.
Furthermore, there has always been a history of review moderation on the internet, with Amazon appearing to be in the spotlight for third-party sellers “fluffing” their products to a five-star rating. Furthermore, because retailers do not report sales in terms of units sold,
Newegg or Amazon may have outsold each other on specific GPUs, making it difficult to determine which is the true best-selling graphics card.
AMD has released the Radeon RX 7900 XT and XTX variants ($899 and $999), and despite their fantastic pricing, the cards are near the bottom of the list on Newegg’s website.
This could change dramatically over the next month, as the tech giant is said to have shipped around 200,000 units for its Q4 2022 supply.
We may have to wait until the best-selling card of 2022 is released at the end of the year to see if AMD’s numbers change.
