AMD no longer has any Radeon RX 7900 XTX Reference Model Graphics Cards available to fulfil RMA requests for overheating cards.
This is the third report from Igors Lab on the ongoing AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX reference graphics card issues. According to the most recent information, AMD has run out of stock for its stock Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics cards, also known as the MBA (Made by AMD) variant. These graphics cards have a fundamental flaw in their thermal solution that causes them to overheat, which AMD has already confirmed.
Buyers who have made an RMA request for the Radeon RX 7900 XTX reference graphics cards are told in emails from various board partners that they will have to wait at least two weeks before their cards are replaced. AMD will cover all expenses, but because the cards are in short supply, the process may take longer than usual.
The following are machine-translated versions of two emails sent by the company to a customer. (Image courtesy of Igors Lab):
Email #1
(AMD) Mr. Sir, Thank you for responding and sending the files. Please let us know whether you want a refund or a replacement. Please keep in mind that a replacement may take up to two weeks to arrive. You should be aware if you decide to request a refund. You must bear these costs yourself because AMD does not provide shipping labels for returning the card. I am still available to answer any additional questions.
Best wishes

Email #2
Mr. Sir,
Thank you for your understanding.
We recognise that you require a replacement for your RX 7900 XTX. It is critical to understand that we are currently unable to replace your card due to a lack of stock in our warehouses. We can begin the process once stock is replenished, but we do not have an estimated date for restocking at this time. If you’d rather have a refund. We can process this refund right away and will send you a return label. in order for you to return the card to our warehouse. Please provide the following information if you wish to wait for an RMA.
- At the time, the maximum junction temperature and the normal GPLI temperature were both present.
- How much time did it take? • What application (game/benchmark/stress test) were you using when you noticed these temperatures until that temperature was reached?
Please let us know how you want to proceed. I am still available to answer any additional questions.
Best wishes

However, it appears that AMD has retracted their two-week statement and now lists a ‘unknown period,’ indicating several things. It appears that AMD is receiving a high volume of RMA requests for the reference Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card, otherwise the initial supply would not have been as large as previously reported and would have already run out. It’s also possible that the total number of graphics cards affected by the thermal design flaw is far greater than previously estimated. Thousands of reference models have already been reported to have the problem.
