Laptops are faster thanks to Intel’s Core i9-13980HX CPU than AMD’s HEDT Threadripper 32-Core chips.

Reports

On MSI’s Raider and Titan laptops, the Core i9-13980HX CPU has been tested and found to perform similarly to AMD’s Threadripper HEDT CPUs.

The MSI GE78 Raider and G77 Titan, two of their premium gaming laptops, were set up for early benchmark testing in Cinebench R23 to evaluate the performance of the Intel Core i9-13980HX CPU that these mobile powerhouses contain. MSI unveiled its new laptop portfolio at CES 2023.

Even for being regarded as “engineering samples” of the final product, these two “beast” computers produced excellent performance. Eight performance cores and sixteen efficient cores make up the Intel Core i9-24 13980HX’s cores, and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 mobile GPU, which is unlocked on the new devices, is also housed in the two laptops.

The thorough testing, conducted by the YouTube channel Jarrod’s Tech, demonstrated the capabilities of MSI’s mobile design as well as the new Intel Core i9-13980HX CPU. With the help of Dynamic Boost, the base TGP of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards can be increased to 175W, reaching max boost TGP values. Each system includes the exclusive 250W Overdrive, which enables the systems to balance processing and graphics power and distribute the heavy load between the two components.

As at the time of writing, the new NVIDIA graphics card was still under embargo, making testing and publication impossible. However, there is no embargo on the processor. In the video, the Intel Core i9-13980HX CPU achieved scores of 2135 for single-core tests and 30498 for multi-core tests in Cinebench R23.

The MSI Titan GT77 and MSI Raider GE78 HX’s Intel Core i9-13980HX CPUs have the same configuration as the Core i9-13900K from Intel’s 13th generation. The base and maximum TDPs of the Intel i9-13980HX are 55W and 157W, respectively. With a frequency of 5.8 GHz, the Intel i9-13900K has a base TDP of 125W and a peak TDP of 253W. The mobility chip’s maximum peak clock speed is 5.6 GHz.

On February 8, 2023, MSI intends to introduce the MSI Titan GT77 and MSI Raider GE78 HX laptops. The two laptops’ prices have not yet been disclosed but are likely to do so on launch day.
